OXFORD INTERNATIONAL – CARE INITIATIVE LAUNCH, DOING OUR PART TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
These last few weeks has been reminded us that the fight for equality around the world is still far from over and requires all of us to work towards this cause proactively. Since the murder of George Floyd, we’ve taken the time to pause and reflect on the issue of racism and inequality to start to build a plan on what we can do to continue to promote diversity and inclusion inside our Group.
For nearly 30 years, Oxford International has aimed to create life-enhancing experiences for our students. Fundamental to creating these experiences have been the belief that students and staff everywhere should have access to every opportunity available. As an international education company, we have always promoted diversity in our schools and our educational centres and have celebrated the unique mix of student and staff populations. Now, we are looking to do more to ensure we are creating a world with limitless possibilities – and the equality of opportunity for all our stakeholders.
We believe that actions speak louder than words so we wanted to make an announcement when we had something tangible to say that represents the steps we are taking as an organisation to combat these issues.
The result has been in setting up the CARE initiative.
The CARE initiative stands for:
Challenge – we will challenge tradition and stereotypical thinking
Amplify – we will amplify voices that represent the diverse community of individuals and suppliers
Represent – we will be transparent about representation across the organisation
Educate – we will educate ourselves on equality and diversity issues and seek ways to do and be better
The Oxford International CARE Action Plan is designed to start the process of more formally embedding practices that will support diversity and inclusion throughout the Oxford International Group. We know in this world, words matter, but actions are what define a person and a company. Therefore, the CARE framework is intended to guide our actions to ensure we create a long-term positive impact, not just be caught up in the mood of the moment. It creates a set of objectives that all parts of the organisation will have responsibility for realising through their own action plans. We will review each set of these action points on a bi-monthly basis to evaluate if progress is made. In June 2021, we will do a complete audit of our activities and make updates to the action plan to reflect the learnings of the previous year.
Our journey to promoting a more just and fairer world hasn’t just started, and we still have many miles to go but, we believe creating an action plan will help us along the road to getting there.
